EA Brings FIFA 08 to All Formats in Fall

In an annoucement that was not much of a suprise to anyone, Electronic Arts Inc. announced the next installment of the internationally acclaimed FIFA franchise for 2008. Developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, FIFA 08 will be hitting shelves sometime this fall, for literally every format possible – Xbox 360, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, PC, mobile, and debuts on the Playstation 3 and Wii.

EA also announced that local football stars will be appearing on the game’s box art in each individual nation. Miroslav Klose stars on the Germany packaging, Sergio Ramos appears on the box in Spain, Andreas Ivanschitz is shown in Austria, and Tranquillo Barnetta is displayed in Switzerland. The France cover features both Florent Malouda and and Frank Ribery. The athletes on the US or UK covers will not be revealed until next month.

In addition, FC Barcelona’s world-class midfielder and two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho will be headlining the packaging and marketing campaigns. Ronaldinho will be appearing on all of the box covers across all regions in addition to the local superstars mentioned previously.

Many of the superstars are also participating in a motion capture event today in order for the EA team to accurately reproduce the body movements, individual moves, and playing styles of each athlete and bring the virtual stars to life in the game. For those interested, photos from the motion-capture event can be found at http://info.ea.com after 5:00 pm ET today.

The senior producer for FIFA 08, Joe Booth, had this to say: “We are proud to call some of the world’s best football athletes our partners. The access, guidance and insight they give us means that FIFA 08 will create a next gen experience that not only looks authentic, but that captures the emotion, finesse and beauty of the game. Through sessions like today, and the continued investment in our next gen football engine, our world-class development team continues to revolutionize the authentic gameplay experience.”

Added Matt Bilbey, International Director of EA SPORTS, “Ronaldinho and all the FIFA 08 cover stars bring a passion for the sport that is raw and true. They enjoy helping us bring that real-world experience into the game. Their expert skills, commitment to success and passion for football inspire our development team and help us make FIFA 08 the most natural-feeling football videogame in the world.”

FIFA 08 is scheduled for a worldwide release in the fall.

Why are EA SPORTS putting the fifa 08 on playstation 2 and 3, but not on Xbox and Xbox 360? Xbox was out after PS2 so why is Xbox not getting it? Hopefully you can tell me because I don’t know why!

Hi Joseph. EA Sports FIFA Soccer 08 should be out except for the following two systems, Xbox 1 and Gameboy. I’m assuming EA developed it for PS2 due to the demographics and installed base of the PlayStation 2 worldwide. Comparing this to Xbox 1, xbox didn’t sold much console.
