With each passing season, we anxiously anticipate each sports video game release. This year, basketball is no different, and what a treat!
One of my 2011 sports/video games predictions is who’s going to grace the cover of NBA 2K12. I predicted Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls and I was somewhat close 🙂 . Last week 2K Sports announced the cover arts for their successful basketball sim in a trio of covers. For the first time in the NBA 2K series, 2K sports will release three distinct cover arts featuring Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan.
“Bringing Michael Jordan to the virtual hardwood last year was a huge success for NBA 2K11. However, we didn’t want to stop there.” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We’re bringing ‘His Airness’ back to the NBA 2K franchise as part of a multi-year extended partnership, along with two other legendary icons – Larry Bird and Magic Johnson – for a special cover athlete collection representing the NBA’s greatest heroes.”
The new stylized NBA 2K12 covers are a unique and one-time departure from the traditional 2K Sports brand artwork. Each legendary athlete will spotlight his famous team: the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls. The covers featuring Bird and Johnson will be available in a limited quantity.
The cover art for NBA 2K12 was created by Adam Larson of Adam&Co.
Our take on the covers
“A picture is worth a thousand words.” And in this case, cover arts. Each of the covers signify each player’s signature shots: Bird’s three pointer, Johnson’s hook shot and Jordan’s reverse layup. And with reddish smoke background in the mix, these covers are an instant classic.
